Congratulations to the following students who competed recently at the District Trumbauer Theater competition and scored a superior rating and an invitation to State competition in December. Logan DuMont, Greysen Hancock, Ayden Kelley, Gabe Jones, Kathryn Thompson and Luke Thompson. Logan, Greysen, Ayden and Kathryn were in vocal performance categories. Luke and Gabe performed dramatic monologues. We have so many talented students and are so proud of their accomplishments!

They both represented their school really well. We are so proud of them. A special congratulations to Kaitlynn Bybee who earned a medal this year, finishing 11th in the state in 4A Cross Country overall. That's a lot to be proud of. Great job!

PRESS RELEASE Straughn High School Sends Two to AHSAA State Finals Straughn High School is proud to announce that freshman Aubryn Cottle and junior Cooper McKinney have qualified for the AHSAA State Swimming Finals, to be held in Huntsville, Alabama, on Friday and Saturday, November 21–22. Both athletes have emerged as two of the most competitive swimmers in the region and will represent Straughn on the biggest stage of the season. Aubryn Cottle, despite being only a freshman, is no newcomer to state-level competition. She returns to the State Finals in the 100-yard butterfly, the same event in which she advanced to the finals last year and finished 6th overall among 1A–5A swimmers. Cottle looks to build on that impressive performance as she makes her second consecutive trip to Huntsville. Junior Cooper McKinney will compete in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Although McKinney achieved multiple qualifying cuts throughout the season, AHSAA rules allow athletes to compete in only two events at the State Finals. This marks his first appearance at the championship meet, where he enters as a top-eight contender in his events and aims to advance from preliminaries to the final heat. Both athletes embody the values of Straughn High School, pride, confidence, dedication, and unmatched work ethic. Their commitment has shown all season long, and now they’re ready to shine on the state stage. Great job! We are so proud of our entire 2025 SHS swim team!
